What is GRE

GRE is accepted by most of the schools worldwide in the admission process, this is a multiple-choice computer adaptive test and is an essential test for aspirants seeking Masters or PhD degrees in the United States of America. Pattern of the exam


  • AWA (1 hour) Argument essay Issue essay Each essay in about
    Verbal (20 Q per section) 2 sections – 1 hour Sentence equivalence, text completion, Reading comprehension.
    Quant (20 Q per section) 2 sections – 1:10 hours Arithmetic, algebra, geometry and statistics.
    Experimental (no score) 1 section – 30/35 minutes Verbal / Quant
    This 3 hour 45 minutes exam is an internet based test and one could score a maximum of 340 points. Individual score of 170 is allotted to verbal and quant sections. There are 6 sections in total: the first section is AWA and it is followed by either a verbal / quant section, among these there is an experimental section which, however, is unscored.

    Key Perceptions


  • The difficulty of questions is based on the performance in the preceding ones. Difficulty levels therefore amend in respect to the student's answers in the test.
  • The first section is reflective of an 'average' difficulty level.
  • The student can skip, navigate and return, and change their responses within a section itself .
  • The test consists of a 'mark and review' feature to mark questions the student may want to review later.
  • The GRE can be taken once every 21 days, up to five times within an year
  • Scores are valid for five years after the testing year in which a student was tested.
  • There is an on-screen calculator for use in the Quantitative Reasoning section to reduce the emphasis on computation and to ensure that the student focuses more attention on reasoning skills.
